The usual dose for adults and children who weigh more than 25 kg (55 lbs) and are 6 to 8 years and older is 1 mg (1 unit) injected into a muscle. For children who weigh less than 25 kg (55 lbs) and are younger than 6 to 8 years, the dose is 0.5 mg (0.5 units) or based on body weight.
To give a Glucagen Hypokit (Glucagon) injection, first prepare the injection. Do not prepare the injection until the medication is needed. Once prepared, use it immediately and do not store for later use.
As soon as someone responds to Glucagen Hypokit (Glucagon), they should eat glucose (e.g., candy, orange juice, regular pop) to prevent low blood sugar from returning and contact their doctor.
Many things can affect the dose of a medication that a person needs, such as body weight, other medical conditions, and other medications. If your doctor has recommended a dose different from the ones listed here, do not change the way that you use the medication without consulting your doctor.
It is important that Glucagen Hypokit (Glucagon) be used exactly as prescribed by your doctor.
Store Glucagen Hypokit (Glucagon) in the refrigerator at 2°C to 8°C and keep it out of the reach of children. The Hypokit form of Glucagen Hypokit (Glucagon) can be stored at a temperature no greater than 25°C for up to 18 months, provided the expiry date is not exceeded.

Each 1 mg/mL vial is supplied as a sterile, freeze-dried white powder of Glucagen Hypokit (Glucagon) in a 2 mL vial and accompanying solvent also in a 2 mL vial. Glucagen Hypokit (Glucagon) powder is reconstituted with 1.0 mL of water for injection (WFI), forming a solution of 1 mg (1 IU) Glucagen Hypokit (Glucagon) and 107 mg of lactose monohydrate in each mL prior to use. One stoppered glass vial contains 1 mg Glucagen Hypokit (Glucagon), corresponding to 1 mg glucagon/mL after reconstitution. Nonmedicinal ingredients: lactose monohydrate, hydrochloric acid and/or sodium hydroxide (pH adjusters), and water for injection.

Each 1 mg/mL vial is supplied as a sterile, freeze-dried white powder of Glucagen Hypokit (Glucagon) in a 2 mL vial and accompanying solvent in a 1.5 mL disposable syringe. Glucagen Hypokit (Glucagon) powder is reconstituted with 1.0 mL of water for injection (WFI), forming a solution of 1 mg (1 IU) Glucagen Hypokit (Glucagon) and 107 mg of lactose monohydrate in each mL prior to use. Nonmedicinal ingredients: lactose monohydrate, hydrochloric acid and/or sodium hydroxide (pH adjusters), and water for injection.

Each kit contains 1 rubber-stoppered vial of lyophilized powder containing Glucagen Hypokit (Glucagon) for injection USP 1 unit (1 mg) and 1 prefilled Hyporet of diluting solution. Nonmedicinal ingredients: lactose and glycerin. May contain hydrochloric acid for pH adjustment.

Insulinoma/glucagonoma: If you have an insulinoma (a tumour of the pancreas that produces insulin) or a glucagonoma (tumour of the pancreas that produces Glucagen Hypokit (Glucagon)), discuss with your doctor how Glucagen Hypokit (Glucagon) may affect your medical condition, how your medical condition may affect the dosing and effectiveness of Glucagen Hypokit (Glucagon), and whether any special monitoring is needed.
Knowledge of use: Glucagen Hypokit (Glucagon) is usually given by family members, friends, or coworkers, as it should not be used unless the individual needing the medication cannot take glucose by mouth. Make sure that these people are familiar with when and how to use Glucagen Hypokit (Glucagon) and where you store it.
Pheochromocytoma: This is a tumour of the adrenal gland that affects how and when the body produces chemicals that increase heart rate and blood pressure. For people with pheochromocytoma, Glucagen Hypokit (Glucagon) can cause the tumour to release larger than normal amounts of these chemicals, causing a rapid, possibly dangerous, climb in blood pressure. If you have a history of pheochromocytoma, discuss with your doctor how Glucagen Hypokit (Glucagon) may affect your medical condition, how your medical condition may affect the dosing and effectiveness of Glucagen Hypokit (Glucagon) and whether any special monitoring is needed.
Pregnancy: Glucagen Hypokit (Glucagon) should not be used during pregnancy unless the benefits outweigh the risks, and only if sugar cannot be given.
Breast-feeding: It is not known if Glucagen Hypokit (Glucagon) passes into breast milk. If you are a breast-feeding mother and are taking Glucagen Hypokit (Glucagon), it may affect your baby. Talk to your doctor about whether you should continue breast-feeding.
