Bupropion is contraindicated in patients with: 

• History of an allergic response to ingredients used to make Bupropion
• Seizures and fits
• Bulimia or Anorexia Nervosa (increased risk of seizures is seen) 
• Patients with recent head trauma or AV malformations in the cranium.

Harmful interactions can occur when Bupropion is used with another class of antidepressant medications called monoamine oxidase inhibitors or MAOIs, such as:

• Isocarboxazid
• Pimozide
• Rasagiline
• Tranylcypromine
• Selegiline
• Selegiline Transdermal
• Phenelzine
• Eliglustat

Medications that are the inducers of the enzymes CYP2B6 also interact with Bupropion, such as :

• Ritonavir
• Lopinavir
• Efavirenz
• Carbamazepine
• Phenobarbital
• Phenytoin

Other medications that interact with Bupropion are antipsychotics, such as[1] :

• Haloperidol
• Risperidone
• Thioridazine

Certain antidepressants also interact with Bupropion, such as[1] :

• Venlafaxine
• Nortriptyline
• Imipramine
• Desipramine
• Paroxetine
• Fluoxetine
• sertraline

Other medications that interact with Bupropion are Beta-blockers, Theophylline, Amantadine, Dopamine precursors, Transdermal Nicotine Patches, Blood Thinners, and Corticosteroids.

Bupropion has many more drug interactions ranging from severe to mild. Not all possible interactions have been mentioned in the above list. Inform your doctor in case you are taking any medicine.

Bupropion has the following FDA- approved uses-

• Adult depression- Bupropion, under the brand name Wellbutrin, is used to treat patients diagnosed with MDD (Major Depressive Disorder) who may experience a change in appetite, persistently dysphoric mood, sleep deprivation, feeling guilty or worthless, and are prone to suicidal ideation or attempts.
• Seasonal affective disorder (SAD) - Bupropion can also treat patients experiencing depression, specifically in the winter months due to short days and reduced temperatures.
• Smoking cessation- Bupropion is sanctioned for this treatment.

Off-label uses of Bupropion accounts for:

• Antidepressant-induced-sexual dysfunction
• ADHD: Attention deficit hyperactivity disorder
• Obesity

Depression associated with bipolar disorder

Note- Please note that doctors may prescribe this medication for other uses as well. Patients should ask their physician for detailed information.

Follow your physician’s dosing guidelines if you have been prescribed Bupropion. Some important facts to keep in mind include:

• Bupropion may be administered in two or three doses per day.
• Each dose has a six hours gap in between. 
• The drug shall be scheduled for the same time each day. 
• The prescribed dose has no strict requirement for prior consumption of food. Swallow the whole tablet. Avoid crushing or dividing. 
• Do not take Bupropion too close to bedtime to avoid sleep problems. 
• Try not to compensate for the missed dose of Bupropion in the form of double or triple doses. If missed, take it as soon as you remember, or move on to the next dose schedule if it's too late. You could possibly use alarms to remind you about the dose times. 
• Bupropion can take weeks before you feel that the tablet is working for you. Stay patient, and avoid changing the dose or stopping the medication without the doctor’s consent.

• Loss of appetite
• Changes in the sense of taste

Rare
Contact your doctor immediately if you experience:

• Seizures
• Confusion
• Hallucinations 
• Having trouble concentrating
• Having beliefs that are not true
• Fainting
• Chest Pain
• Sweating
• Aggressiveness
• Hypertension

There are more side effects associated with the use of Bupropion. You should always remember to check with your physician about the chance of other possible side effects.

Keep in mind the precautions and warning signs mentioned below if you have been prescribed Bupropion:

• DO NOT take Wellbutrin and Zyban together.
• Inform your physician if you notice rashes or itching after taking your doses, as this could indicate an allergic reaction to the medication.
• Feeling suicidal is common after using antidepressant medications.
• Keep your family and physician well-informed about your thoughts and ideations.
• Inform your doctor of all the medicationt you are already takig, and all your past medical disorders to avoid side effects.
• DO NOT drink alcohol with your doses, and also DO NOT abruptly stop alcohol. Take your physician’s advice. 
• DO NOT engage in heavy machinery work after taking your dose.

Each tablet has the specified amount of Bupropion and the related dormant ingredients. For proper storage:

• Store at room temperature. 
• Store out of direct sunlight. 
• Keep in its tightly closed container, preferably the original container. 

For proper disposal of the medicine:

• Send away the medicine in a take-back program by contacting the nearest pharmacy. 
• If not, mix the doses with an undesirable substance like cat litter, and dispose of it in a sealed bag or a closed-lid container.
